Young Russian Artists (YRA): The Rite of Spring, Timed Auction till 17 May 2021

YRA is pleased to present its inaugural event The Rite of Spring – an online timed auction of 65 works by 40 of Russia’s most exciting emerging artists.

Inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s iconic ballet, each work celebrates themes linked to revolution and the advent of spring such as new life, Pagan rituals, and nature in flux.

Ranging from abstract paintings of dreamscapes to photographs of Russia’s freezing Sakha Republic, and ceramics to pop art prints, these works demonstrate the skill and diversity of the country’s young contemporary artists. They also shed light on a creative side of Russia too often overshadowed by today’s news.

A selection of works has been provided by artists from Moscow’s HSE Art and Design School.

The auction is being hosted by London-based The Auction Collective – established by former Christie’s Auctioneer and Contemporary Art Specialist Tom Best to make buying art more transparent, affordable, and accessible – theauctioncollective.com

YRA is a new platform set up by George Nelson, a journalist and editor who writes for The Art Newspaper, among other publications, from Moscow. Its goal is to raise the profile of young and emerging Russian artists and to develop cultural dialogue between Russia and the West. The auction will be a springboard for future events. Artists for the auction were selected with the help and advice of Moscow-based curator Anna Antonova.
